Shrewsbury "Blue Genes" Sale of British Blue Cattle saw a 95% Clearance

The British Blue Society held it’s inaugural sale of British Blues at Shrewsbury Auction Centre on 7th March 2020.

A small, but quality entry was forward with a 95% clearance.

Maes Ned ET
Sale topper, Maes Ned ET selling for 4,600gns

Topping the sale at 4,600gns was Maes Ned ET from Llion Jones.  Ned, a April 2018 born light blue roan son of Dafydd D’Ochain and out of Ridge Dean Jasmine was purchased by J A Wood & Sons, Kinnerton Farm, Shrewsbury.

Iz Nigel
Supreme Champion - Iz Nigel - sold for 3600gns

The Supreme Champion, Iz Nigel sold for 3,600gns, a black & white January ’18 born son of Manchester Du Bois Remont and out of the imported cow Bluestar Isabelle was brought forward by Izzy Williams and the successful purchaser was D H Tilsley, Minsterley, Shropshire.

Also selling at 3,600gns was the youngest bull in the sale, Hawthorn Blues Ninjago, a September 2018 dark blue roan son of Tenace De La Praule – he was out of Dragon Blues Jetta, herself a Cromwell Fendt daughter.  Bred by new member, Simon Hughes, after spirited bidding, he was knocked down to Bowen & Bowen, Welshpool, Powys, breeders of the Supreme Champion in the commercial section of this sale.

Astrics Nia
Highest priced female - Astrics Nia sold for 4,200gns

Topping the Females was Reserve Female Champion - Rhys Millichaps heifer, Astrics Nia at 4,200gns.  This very mobile and correct heifer was purchased by Rhys at the foot of her dam, Astrics Gem and was sired by Astrics JJ.  The delighted purchaser was Dean Saunders, Ulverston, Cumbria, to join his Maidenlands Herd.

Trencrom Nazarra
Supreme Champion Female - Trencrom Nazarra - sold for 3,600gns

Selling at 3,600gns was the Champion Female and Reserve Overall, Trencrom Nazarra from EA & DA Ellis.  This powerful, March 2018 born heifer was sired by Ballydangan Hectare and out of Trencrom Jazmine and found a new home with S Carpenter, Worcestershire.

Izzy Williams sold Iz O’Wow ET for 3,000gns. The Youngest heifer in the sale, she was out of the Farouk De St Amand/ Zorte De Beauffaux flush.  The successful purchaser was GL Potter, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Commercial Section

Champion Unhaltered and Res Overall Commercial Champion
Champion Unhaltered and Res Overall Commercial Champion from JM&AM Lewis - £1500

The Commercial section was topped at £1500 by the un-haltered heifer class winner and Reserve Champion from JM & AM Lewis (Lot 43).  Sired by the Limousin bull and out of a British Blue x Angus cow, she sold to W Smith & B Frodsham, Leek, Staffordshire.

Res Champion Haltered calf - £1280 for T&NW Roberts

The next highest price was £1280 for Lot 36, the first prize haltered heifer sired by Alphabet De Beauffaux, from T & NW Roberts.  The successful purchaser was DE Storer, Macclesfield.

Claiming the Overall Crossbred Champion was Lot 26, a Charolais x British Blue steer from Bowen & Bowen, who realized £1040 and was purchased by WS Layton, Leominster, Herefordshire.
