British Blue bulls sell to top price of 18,000gns at Carlisle

Bulls sold to a top price of 18,000gns at the British Blue Cattle Society’s Special January Sale at Carlisle, with five in total reaching five figures and an 85% Clearance.

Pendle Tiger

Pendle Tiger - 18,000gns

The sale leader was March 2023-born bull, Pendle Tiger from the Hartley family, Nelson. Dark roan and naturally born, the sale topper won reserve male and reserve overall champion at the pre-sale show, judged by Martin Grayshon.

Successfully shown last summer, the 23-month-old bull was sired by Hallfield Panther and out of the home bred Pendle Ocus. it was knocked down to Ian Wainwright, Todhall, Cupar.

Faughanvale Tornado

Faughanvale Tornado - 16,000gns

Selling for 16,000gns was Faughanvale Tornado (Lot 20) from the McGuinness family, Northern Ireland.  A son of Drybarrows Cawdale, and out of the Balmoral Show Supreme Champion of 2019, Castletrench Delia, the January 2022-born bull sold to commercial calf producer, Frank Page, Elkington, Northampton.

Brennand Thunder

Brennand Thunder - 14,000gns

The Walker family from Brennand Farm, Dunsop Bridge, averaged 13,000gns across their pen of two bulls. Brennand Thunder (Lot 35) sold for 14,000gns to J Carr, Camphill Farm, Hexham. A son of Maes Owain and out of

Brennand Ola, the 20-month-old bull stood second in its class earlier in the day to the supreme champion.

Brennand Tetleys

Brennand Tetleys - 12,000gns

Two bulls sold for 12,000gns apiece, the first being Brennand Tetleys (Lot 22). Sired by Blak Du Baty D’Eprave and out of Brennand Gin, it was purchased by J A Cruickshank, Longmorn, Elgin.

Solway View Taran

Solway View Taran - 12,000gns

The other, at 12,000gns, was the day’s Supreme Champion, Solway View Taran (Lot 31) from Maulcastle Farming. Turned out by Ali Jackson, the 21-month-old bull is the result of a flush between Boherard Overdose and Solway View Katie. It sold to Jonathan Hall, Longnor, Derbyshire.

Tipladys Tonka

Tipladys Tonka - 10,000gns

Tipladys Tonka (Lot 32) from Richard Tiplady was next at 10,000gns. Sired by Black N Blue Diesel and out of the home-bred, Tipladys Nikita, it was knocked down to R MacKenzie & Sons, Boat of Garton, Inverness.

Faughanvale Taylor

Faughanvale Taylor - 6,500gns

Females topped at 6,500gns twice – the first was Faughanvale Taylor (Lot 41), Female Champion from the McGuinness Family.  A powerful heifer was sired by Blak Du Baty D’Eprave and out of Faughanvale Ellen, it sold to Gary Bell, Haas Side Farm, Lockerbie.

Solway View Toffee

Solway View Toffee - 6,500gns

The Reserve Female Champion, Solway View Toffee (Lot 44) also sold at 6,500gns.  Sired by Moderato De L’Empereur and out of Solway View Katie, it sold to an undisclosed bidder.

Selling at 5,500gns was Stonebyres Treacle (Lot 42) from Blair & Shona Comrie.  A stylish heifer by Stonebyres Ninja and out of Stonebyres Monalisa, it was knocked down to Nick Parker, Silsden.

Following closely behind at 5,200gns was Tipladys Tia Maria (Lot 43) from Richard Tiplady. Sired by Tipladys Rocco and out of Tipladys Joules, it travels to Wales with L Lloyd, Llanellan.
