Rhymil UDancer Tops Royal Welsh British Blue Classes in Heifer Clean Sweep
Perfect showing weather and an all-Welsh entry set the scene for a strong display of British Blue cattle at this year’s Royal Welsh Show. While numbers were naturally lower due to current movement restrictions, the quality forward remained.
Miss Issy Hartley, of the Pendle herd, Lancashire, took on the task of judging the breed and praised the standard on show.
“There may have been less stock forward, but the quality was still there,” she said.
“The Blues had a fantastic performance in the interbreed, winning the male and female interbreed pairs, the junior bull title, and showing real strength across the board.”
“I was honoured to be asked to judge at the Royal Welsh Show and I’m very proud of the breed for doing so well in the interbreeds.”
Overall Champion - Rhymil UDancer
It was a day dominated by youngstock, with Rhys Millichap’s Rhymil UDancer taking the overall championship. A sweet and correct heifer standing out in the ‘born after March 1, 2024 class’, she impressed from the start, also taking best female and junior female.
Bred and exhibited by Rhys Millichap, Rhiwgarn Fach, Wales, UDancer is sired by Empire D’Ochain and out of homebred cow Rhymil Primadonna.
Reserve Champion - Ty Isaf Uniquea
Following her in the championship line-up was another stylish heifer from the same class, Ty Isaf Uniquea, from DW & LE Morgan, Powys. Sired by Ty Isaf Diamond Ice and out of Ty Isaf Nancy, she stood just behind the champion on the day.
“Both my champion and reserve were two very sweet, correct heifers,” said Miss Hartley. “Well worthy of champion and reserve.”
Best Bull Ty Isaf Tango
The Ty Isaf team had a strong day all round, also taking best bull and best male exhibit with Ty Isaf Tango, who topped the senior bull class.
Junior Bull Champion - Rivervalley Up Town Funk
A standout moment came in the Junior Bull Interbreed Championship, where Elliw Roberts of B&R Farming took the overall title with Rivervalley Up Town Funk, continuing the Blues’ excellent showing in the interbreed rings.
In the pairs competition, the team of Flo and Tom Jones took the red rosette for the breed — another indication of the quality coming through in Welsh-bred Blues.
